This fly pattern came from the need for an alternative to the bass vampire, that was designed to target deep schooling Australian bass in impoundments, which it is without doubt the most effective fly in that scenario.
Considering that a lot of my bass fishing is done walking the dams, casting at weed edges and structure, I wanted a fly that could keep up with the catch rate of a vampire, but fished more like a shrimp and be lightly weighted if I needed it for a certain situation. After a few different versions and loads of bass, the Ploy Bug was born!
